During the Ripper murders in 1888, a mysterious woman arrives in London leading a detective to question everything he believes is true.
In London’s Whitechapel district a heinous murder is committed, one in which the likes have not been seen before. William Hadley is sent to start investigating this crime. It is when the second murder takes place Hadley realizes that the working women of the night in the Whitechapel district are in danger. It at the crime scene of the second murder a well-dressed woman collapses, and Hadley quickly becomes intrigued with her. He has her taken to his office where he can start to find out who she is and what she was doing there. Hadley’s good friend Dr. Lewellyn cautions him to be careful knowing how Hadley almost ruined his career because a woman after the death of his wife and two children.
Jaqueline is a woman with a tragic past. She was traded by her parents, as a bride, to a wealthy doctor. The doctor abused her, because he wanted her sister more, but her sister ran away before she was forced to marry him. Now a widow Jaqueline finds herself in London saying she wants to start a new life.
Hadley and Jaqueline quickly become romantically involved. It is because if this involvement that Hadley’s judgement become clouded and not focused on finding the killer.
The press is hard on the police feeling they are not doing enough to find the killer and starts to publish letters that were sent by killer. The letters mock the police and give details of the next set of murders that are to take place.
In a desperate attempt the London police enlists the services of a pair of dogs that are said to be able to track the killer after the murder. After the failure of the commissioner to finalize the purchase the dogs, the owner takes them back. The commissioner retires and leaves in the middle of the night, leaving Hadley and his crew at the scene of the last and most horrific of the Ripper murders for hours. It is only during this time that Hadley realizes that he has missed vital clues to the killer’s identity. Hadley rushes off to the docks to find he is too late, and can only watch as the ship sails away, with the murderer on board.
